Wish-List For The Blind and Dyslexic—It’s EASY To HELP!

Posted on July 6, 2008. Filed under: -- How YOU Can Help!!, -- Volunteering | Tags: , , , |

By Molly Greaves

As part of my volunteer packet for the RFB&D, there was a “wish list” included for the Austin office. I thought I’d post it since some of you may have this stuff in your attic or garage.

1. Novel size and textbook size book stands/rests.

2. Reference books–for their reference library.

3. Art to be hung in their office for 2 months.  Artists can choose to sell the art, or take it home at the end of the time.

4. Food-opening events need food, and snacks for volunteers.

5.  Table Captains for their Celebration Event–which is a free fundraising event.

By Molly Greaves

I dont know much about Fisher investments, so I decided to try and change that. So, I recently called them to get some information, including their annual report.

I received the information in the mail the other day, and wanted to share with you what they deem the 10 Critical Questions Every Investor Should Ask–A Portfolio Survival Guide

1. How big does my portfolio have to be for me to reach my goals?

2. How will inflation affect my portfolio?

5.  Do I have clear investment objectives?

6. What investment strategy best meets my objectives?

Consumers Grow Gloomier—Economic Review Week Ending June 27, 2008

Posted on July 6, 2008. Filed under: -- Economic Week In Review, -- Uncategorized | Tags: , , |

posted by Molly Greaves—because I care!

This week’s economic reports showed little signs of relief as the
consumer confidence index fell even lower than expected. Consumers
continue to be concerned over rising unemployment rates, historically
high gas prices, and the housing slump. On a brighter note, sales of
existing homes were up for the month, albeit still far below
historical averages. In other news, the Federal Reserve Board’s Open
Market Committee met this week and kept the target funds rate at 2.0%,
putting an end to an eight-month-long string of rate changes. For the
week, the S&P 500 Index fell 3.0% to 1,279 (for a year-to-date total
return of –12%). The yield of the 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 17
basis points to 3.99%.

Some Bright Spots, No Fireworks—Economic Review For Week ending Friday, July 4th 2008

Economic Week in Review: Some bright spots, no fireworks
——————————————————–
This week’s economic news painted a picture of an economy struggling
with surging oil prices and a general slowdown. While jobs continued
to be lost, the unemployment rate held steady. Private construction
spending was down, but public sector spending increased. And growth
stalled in the service sector while factory activity increased
slightly. For this holiday-shortened trading week, the S&P 500 Index
fell 1.2% to 1263 (for a year-to-date total return of –13.2%). The
yield of the 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 1 basis point to 3.98%
(for a year-to-date decrease of 6 basis points).
